Last week’s VoteSharp blog featured Stephanie’s “Sharp Sheet” for local elections in Johnson County, KS, Kansas City’s largest suburban county. It’s a way of sharing her expertise in state and local politics with her community, which may not have the time (or interest) to learn about candidates. Let’s turn it into serving:
Endorsements are the OG Google Reviews – except better – they come from people you know and trust.
Whether you’re sharing your favorite cupcakery or cleaning business, or just giving a shout-out to a friend who did something thoughtful, sharing your experiences with your network is an opportunity to make their lives a bit easier, or let others know that your friend is great, so when others meet him/her, they will have an instant connection as well.
Sharing your product or people experiences can help others, but imagine if the product or person is a friend with a business? This is why Substack puts “share this” or “subscribe” buttons everywhere. If you derive value from something, the best way to serve your community is to share it.
The consulting firm, McKinsey, estimates word-of-mouth impacts 20-50% of purchasing decisions.
The modern version of this is “Influencer Marketing” which is basically famous people, or wannabe famous people you’ve never met, being paid to tell you that a product is great. They’re paid to be convincing “users” of a product and will stop getting paid if they are no longer convincing. Unless you’re Kevin Bacon, six degrees of separation is too far to trust.
Take it from me. Or don’t (if you’re more than two degrees)!
Happy serving!
